Stamped Loyalty is your platform to create points and rewards, a VIP program to reward your best customers, and a referral program. Stamped Loyalty improves your overall retention marketing strategy and drives measurable revenue. 

By the end of this guide, you'll have your referral program set up - keep in mind you can always reach out to us at support@stamped.io for help.

The below guide provides instructions for both our Loyalty Classic and Loyalty 2.0 experience. We are migrating customers to Loyalty 2.0 throughout the coming months. If you're unsure which version you are on now, please first navigate here.

Benefits Of Using Our Referral Program

Referrals are a word-of-mouth marketing tactic that encourages happy customers to advocate on behalf of your brand in exchange for gifts or other incentives.

Referrals have a positive impact across your customer lifecycle, including:

Cost. They are relatively inexpensive to launch (hint hint, if you are using Stamped referrals are available in every pricing tier) and are affordable to run. If you set your rewards well within your margins, you will always profit off of referrals.

Efficacy77% of consumers are more likely to buy a new product when learning about it from friends or family. 

Precision marketing. Giving your happiest customers referral bonuses incentivizes highly qualified new customers AND encourages your existing customers to return. In fact, 65% of consumers say that receiving rewards impacts their frequency of purchase.

Retention. Customers referred by other customers have a 37% higher customer retention rate.

Brands across the board, from small businesses all the way to household brand names, can benefit from launching a referral program.

💡 Brands using Stamped for referrals attribute up to 5% of their overall revenue to the program.


Basic Setup: Loyalty 2.0

  1. Let’s get you started with some basic setup. Go to Referrals & Affiliates and you will see this section for Social Settings:

  2. Fill in all of the details as required, and remember to save your settings by pressing the Save button!
    Note: Facebook no longer allows Stamped to provide the 'Title' and 'Description' for Social Sharing; Facebook will only share the link
  3. At the top of the same page, you can enable your Referral program and notifications

Customers And Friends Rewards Setup

You can set one reward for your customers (Referrers) and one for their friends (Referees) in the Customers and Friends sections.

How to set up a reward:

    1. Click on the Create Reward button on the section you wish to add (Customers (referrer), or Friends (referees)
    2. Select the reward that you wish to reward accordingly. Below are the 4 types of rewards available for your customers. The reward for friends can be set to the Fixed amount or Percentage discount only. 
Reward Description Example
Fixed amount discount Fixed amount discount for future purchases  $5 off coupon
Percentage off discount % off discount for future purchases  10% off
Free Shipping Waive shipping fees Free Shipping
Points Points for customers to redeem rewards at Point Program 1000 points
  1. Fill in the rest of the details accordingly
  2. Click on the Save button to save your settings

How to update or delete an existing reward:

  • To update an existing reward, click on the Three Dots in the respective section that you want to edit
  • Select the reward and fill in the details
  • Remember to Save your changes by clicking on the Update Rule button!

  • To delete an existing reward, click on the Edit button on the respective section that you want to delete
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the Delete button located at the bottom left of the page

Customization in the Launcher and Widgets

After creating referral rewards for Friends and Customers, it's required to have a description of what these rewards are. A default description is generated for you to use and you can edit this at any time to match your brand tone and language. These descriptions will appear in the Launcher, the Referrals page and any Loyalty display widgets that you have installed. 

Note: after creating your Friend and Customer referral rewards, you must click Save to either confirm the default description or save the description you've entered.

To edit the reward descriptions:

  1. Under the Referrals & Affiliates tab in the Stamped dashboard, scroll to the Display section where you can enter your preferred text for Give (friend) and Get (customer)
  2. Once you've entered your text, don't forget to click Save to register the changes you made
    Note: If you change your reward(s), this description text will not automatically update; you'll need to edit it again to reflect any changes to your reward(s); if you remove a reward without adding a new one, you'll be prompted to save an empty reward description.

Referral Code Setup

Referral codes can now be updated to give your best advocates a customized referral code. 

Please note that referral codes are unique across all users. So if the referral code (e.g. JohnSuper01) is taken by another store, and there's an attempt to add this code again by a different store to another customer, a random 3-character string will be added to the referral code (e.g. JohnSuper01abc).

  1. Go to Customers
  2. Search for and click on the desired customer to update their referral code
  3. Under the Referrals section, click on Edit

  4. Enter the customized referral code (e.g. JohnSuper01)
  5. Click on the Save button to save your settings

Customers and Friends Perspectives

Illustrated below are the perspectives of what your Customers and their Friends will see during the referral process.

Customers (Referrers)

Customers will be able to refer to their friends under the Referral section either by copying the direct link to their friends or clicking and sharing on Facebook, Twitter, or email.

The rewards that both your Customer (Referrer) and Friend (Referee) will get upon successful referral will be shown in this section as well.

*For stores that install our Loyalty & Rewards app on the Shopify platform, your customers will have a branded domain referral URL link. (i.e Instead of "https://stamped.io/ref/12312312/", it will be a link similar to ("https://www.gatomall.com/a/rewards/referral/12312312"). Please note that the Stamped Loyalty & Rewards Shopify App needs to be installed to enable this.

If the "Email" option is selected, there will be an embedded form for your Customers (Referrer) to fill up the email address and a personalized message to their Friends (Referee)

Customers will receive the reward once the referred friend completes a purchase with the referral coupon.

Friends (Referred)

Their Friend (Referred) be able to see a unique link along with a customizable message, and they will be able to click on the link shared to them.

Upon clicking on the referral link that your Customer (Referrer) shared, their Friend (Referee) will be redirected to your website with the Loyalty & Rewards app opened and prompting them to enter their email to claim the reward.

The reward that the Friend (Referee) will receive is shown in this section as well.

Basic Setup: Loyalty Classic

  1. Let’s get you started with some basic setup. Go to Settings -> Referral and you will see this page for Referral settings:LR_Referral1.png
  2. Fill up all of the details as required.
  3. Remember to save your settings by pressing the Save button!
  4. Click on Back to Main
  5. Go to Referrals
  6. Ensure the Referral Program is Enabled.LR_Referral2.png

Referral Code Setup
